Final Qualifying for The Open

DUNDONALD DELIVERS OPEN DREAMS

Since becoming a Final Qualifying venue in 2023, Dundonald Links has quickly established itself as one of the most compelling stages on the road to The Open Championship.  Dundonald Links joined the Final Qualifying rota as part a four-year agreement with The R&A in 2023, and since then, the venue has produced dramatic storylines, breakthrough performances and opportunities for both established stars and emerging talent to earn their place in golf’s oldest major.

In its first year as a host venue, Dundonald provided four qualifiers for The 151st Open, including Scots Connor McKinney and Michael Stewart, while the 2024 event saw Spain’s Ángel Hidalgo, Englishman Sam Hutsby, Scotland’s Jack McDonald and Irish amateur Liam Nolan secure places at Royal Troon.

The most notable Final Qualifying held at Dundonald Links came in 2025, when former world number one Lee Westwood topped the leaderboard to qualify for The Open at Royal Portrush after a three-year absence from major championship golf. Westwood’s success attracted significant attention, particularly as he overcame a strong field that included Ryder Cup players, DP World Tour winners and LIV Golf competitors. He was joined by fellow qualifiers Daniel Young, Ángel Hidalgo, Jesper Sandborg and Scottish amateur Connor Graham. The event highlighted Dundonald Links’ growing reputation for producing memorable qualifying stories and providing a stern but fair test of links golf under pressure.

Final Qualifying for the 2026 Open will be held at Dundonald Links on Tuesday 30th June and spectators are welcome to attend the event.  Further information can be found here:

Scottish Open Events

WORLD CLASS GOLF IN SCOTLAND

As early as 2008, Dundonald was chosen as the venue for major Scottish golf events. It has since hosted the Ladies Scottish Open in 2015, 2016 and 2017 and the Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open in 2017.  Since 2022 Dundonald Links has hosted the Women’s Scottish Open, which will return in 2026.

The 2025 ISPS Handa Women’s Scottish Open further enhanced Dundonald Links’ reputation as one of the premier tournament venues in women’s golf. Played just one week before the AIG Women’s Open, the championship attracted many of the world’s leading players and produced a remarkable victory for England’s Lottie Woad. Competing in her first event as a professional, the former world amateur number one delivered a composed and dominant performance, carding rounds of 67, 65, 67 and 68 to finish on 21-under-par and win by three shots. Woad’s breakthrough triumph at Dundonald Links was one of the standout stories of the 2025 season, confirming her status as one of the brightest young talents in the game and adding another memorable chapter to the venue’s growing championship history.

This rich legacy is the foundation of our Dundonald Links course, a true home for dedicated golfers all over the world and is one of the many reasons Dundonald is considered one of the best courses in Scotland.  Indeed this reputation was confirmed when Dundonald Links was awarded Best Course Condition on the Ladies European Tour in 2025.
